Anyway, I'm sad that Nicole has to be a victim in the end too - regardless of what you choose. And for 100% sake I will play through the *entire* game again the get the good(?) ending. I appreciate how sad this game was, and I felt it was necessary to end it how I saw fit, like there was no more hope and the only option was to give up. I came out of the game feeling 2nd hand guilt, and wanting to feel bad for Rachel, however in the end I felt like her memory only caused death for the people close to her (and in my play-through, Nicole's as well). It's obviously not supposed to be an ideal situation but I was hoping for the smallest scrap of hope somewhere.
Following the path of Nicole's father and his obsession, leaving 3-4 lives lost because of 1 horrible crime. I was getting pretty into the whole Nicole/Irving thing and I was not prepared to see him give up like that. I personally think it went a bit too far at the very end, c'mon guys, why the hell did you kill off Irving like that? It actually made me mad, hehe.

I got it for like 3 AUD on sale, so it's probably pretty much free elsewhere :P And I think it is a good game overall, I WOULD recommend buying on a sale, see what ya think. Yeah it is supposed to be a disturbing or depressing experience, and I'm okay with that. Now, sensitive material aside, this game goes south for me when it comes to tying up the end of the game. I enjoyed playing this game for the most part, I like the 'walking sim' that has a bunch of stuff to do/look at while you're exploring and I had a lot of fun doing so! Voice acting was cool and dialogue was written pretty dayum well, I liked the characters.

So if you like walking simulator games that fuck with your mind and make you feel a little crazy (alongside the protag). So did she commit suicide? Was she murdered? I don't think we can reliably say. It's just as likely that Leonard set this whole thing up using Irving (another kid he likely abused) as proxy. I firmly believe that we will never know what actually happened to Rachel Foster other then she was abused by the man who was supposed to be teaching her. This is the story that a pedophile would tell to justify their feelings. I think I saw someone (either in the forum or in a review) describe it best.
Just because they call what happened love, does not mean that this game is convincing us the adult viewer it was love. This is a game that I believe has a very unreliable narrator and furthermore an unreliable source of information (Irving).
So on to the actual review :)įirst of all realistic display of a bad thing, pedophilia in this case, does not constitute support of it. So many of the negative reviews come from people who probably should have paid attention to the trigger warning and refunded the game. PLEASE MIND THE TRIGGER WARNING GIVEN AT THE START OF THE GAME!Īhhh the air feels cleared now. I'll admit I have a stronger stomach for darker content then some do, but this pushed a few boundaries.
